I was tagged by Paula Q: What are 3 things that you think make for strong writing? A:
[I would've left it at that, letting the pictures speak for themselves. Some people might assume I had wanted to dodge the question--but I just wouldn't have answered the question if I'd wanted to dodge it. I think most people aren't afraid of pictures. Most people can look at any picture and say what it means, or what feeling it evokes, or describe a memory that it rattles, or supply it with a caption. I asked Max to interpret the pictures I'd selected, just to see what would happen. He said, "Faith, Discipline, and Genius." I laughed. He looked at them again and said, "Or... breaking open, having a regular practice, and paying attention to voices from the future." I wrote down his answers then asked if he had a third set. He could do this all day. "Daring, love of good sentences, hatred of cliches." He hadn't yet said what I would've said, but his answers assured me that visitors could find enough in my pictures to be satisfied. One more? "Staying true to your nature, having the patience to develop, and taking the steps necessary to pull away from your excuses." . . . eod archives
